It has been over a decade since acclaimed cinematographer Rajiv Menon directed a film, but now, Rajiv Menon Back to Direction and is all set to make a film on Bharat Ratna M S Subbulakshmi. While the filmmaker could not be contacted, a source in his office confirmed the news about Rajiv Menon to Direct about M S Subbulakshmi and also they added that he feels it is still too early to talk about the project. However, we learn that Rajiv will begin work on the project only after completing his current commitments as a cinematographer on Mani Ratnam’s Kadal and on Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiyaan, which is being shot using performance capture technology.
“Rajiv will be shooting for Kadal in July and will start work on his film on MS only after he has finished works on the projects he is currently involved in,” says the source. However, pre-production work on the film has already begun and we hear that the filmmaker has roped in Tamil writer E Ra Murukan, who wrote the dialogues for Kamal Haasan’s Unnai Pol Oruvan, for the project.
The source also adds that it is still unclear if the film will be a feature film or a documentary on the Carnatic music legend. Rajiv last film was the multi-starrer Kandukondain Kandukondain in Tamil, which released in 2000. He was planning to do a musical in Hindi, reportedly titled Dhun and on the lines of the Bollywood classic Abhimaan, with real-life couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 2008 but the project did not take off.
