piracyThe worst hit by piracy was Sarath Kumar’s Jaggubhai. The full length and unfinished version of Jaggubhai was discovered online on 31 December 2009. Yes, it was way before the release. Thousands of pirated cd/dvd’s copies were confiscated by the police.

How did it happen?
The tape was given for post-production work with the watermark and that particular copy went missing. Who to blame? the team who handled the transaction can only be blamed !

Movie leak happens rarely in Kollywood before its release, but Audio leak is a regular activity at present. Here are some of the leaked albums names: Velayutham, Engeyum Kadhal, Kaavalan, Mankatha, Avan Ivan, Goa, 3, Billa2, Rendavathu Padam, Vallinam. Is that it? NO! there are more but we like to keep it short.

Single Leak:
A song crooned by Vijay called ‘Vaanganna Vanakkanganna’ from the film Thalaivaa got leaked way before the audio release, but it did not create big impact on the album. In fact, the track increased the albums expectation. The song later gained tremendous response from the listeners and became a huge hit. Remember ‘Why This Kolaveri’?, same trend.

 Album Leak:
Latest album to be hit by piracy is Biriyani. Biriyani is an upcoming film written and directed by Venkat Prabhu. Studio Green is producing the film. Biriyani features Karthi and Hansika Motwani in lead roles whilst Premji Amaren, Ramki, Nithin Sathya, Madhumitha and Mandy Takhar are also part of the crew. Music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja; this film marks his 100th film.

The hype of the album increased day by day and a surprise announcement was made stating four leading contemporary music directors, G. V. Prakash Kumar, S. Thaman, Vijay Antony and D. Imman, were roped in to sing a number. On July 29th 2013 Yuvan Shankar Raja handed the Master copy. The release date of the album was announced as August 15th  however, it was postponed. Reason?  The team decided to have the   audio launch on Yuvan Shankar Raja’s Birthday (31st of August). All music lovers waited with excitement, but came a shocking news on August 16th, ‘Biriyani album got leaked’

What went wrong?
An online stream portal streamed the 8 full tracks from the album. Illegal? Certainly not! It was legal because they have purchased the streaming rights from the label who holds the Audio rights of the film. Once Metadata is received from Audio the Rights holders, the information of the track are inputted into the system and then on the agreed date, the tracks becomes active for listening. Due to lack of communication/update, the streaming portal did not know the album was delayed (delaying has gone like a trend in Kollywood), hence the site made the stream go live. Shortly after the news started to spread, the portal was informed and they removed the streaming link immediately.

Unfortunately it was too late as it was recorded and uploaded on the net by many music portals. Every music lover prefer high quality (CD), the uploaded quality are online stream, so it is really deprived.  We urge all music lovers to wait until August 31st for the official release and also make this special for Yuvan Shankar Raja who will be celebrating his birthday!

Who is responsible for this leak?
Once the master copy is given to the purchased label, it is their duty to protect and obey the agreement. For films it is different scenario, it gets leaked on the net after the release whereas Audio leak is happening before the official release. Looks like opportunity is given for piracy to happen!

SAY NO TO PIRACY AND RESPECT EVERYONES HARD WORK!
