Clarification on Oscar nominees

Yesterday rumors in social networking pages claims that Vazhaku En 18/9 and Eega has been selected from India as a official entry to academy awards. Actually this is completely a baseless news. Screening of various films including Eega,Vazhaku En18/9,7aam arivu,Barfi,Dirty Picture,Kaahani, Paan Singh Tomar, Ferrari Ki sawari, Akashinte niram are happening in Hyderabad from September 18 .

Further for your information only one film can be send to Academy award for Best foreign language film , so one cannot send two films from one country and the news that Vazhake En 18/9 and Eega has been selected as India’s official entry for oscar is completely false. And many of you in twitter and Facebook inquired as about the criteria for academy award selection for best foreign language film(Academy award). Here is some criteria for you information

• India can send any film which is directed/produced by an Indian(Citizenship) as its official entry(with the acceptance of its makers), irrespective of the language. Even an Iranian speaking Indian film can be send.
• The film should be released from october 1  to September 30, that’s why 7aam arivu which released on october 2011 and Barfi which is released in September 2012 is selected for screening by Film federation of India for selecting India’s official entry to Oscar(2013).
• Even a Hindi speaking film which is directed and produced by a foreigner will not be considered as a India’s official entry eg.water directed by Deepa Meta and the language is Hindi but the producer David Hamilton is Canadian so the film considered as official entry from Canada and not from India another Example is Slumdog Millionaire, though the film has Indian cast, the film is produced and directed by British people so it is considered as a British film .
• Including India’s entry Academy award committee  will screen all the entries across the world which includes the other non-English speaking films and they will nominate five films and from that one film will be given an award at the ceremony.

So kindly don’t believe and spread rumors, wait for sometime to know the film which is a official entry from India, stay tuned with kollybuzz for more updates.
