The hottest buzz in Kollywood is that our maestro Ilaiyaraaja is credited with taking Tamil film music to great heights. He is proving it once again now, as a yesteryear song of him has been selected to be played in the inaugural show of Olympics to be held in London this year.
According to reports, the song ‘Naandhaan Ungappanda…’ from the 1981 film ‘Ram Lakshman’, starring Kamal Haasan and Sripriya in lead roles, features among the list of 86 songs which are to be played at the opening ceremony of Olympics that was apparently leaked to the British media.
The other songs that have been selected for Olympics include tracks from the likes of Adele, Sex Pistols, Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson. The list also includes Paper Planes…, the song by British singer of Tamil origin M.I.A. (which was also featured in the soundtrack of Slumdog Millionaire).
But Ilaiyaraaja’s spokesperson, mentioned that the composer had not received any intimation from the organizers of the Olympic Games regarding the inclusion of the song but admitted that the maestro too had received calls from fans and industry people inquiring about the same. “We don’t know whether to believe these reports or dismiss them as rumours,” he added.
