The unexpected death of film producer A Srinivas has left his family, friends and his film team in the dark about the cause for his suicide. Srinivas was co-producer of the film Attahasa (Vana Yuddham in Tamil), which deals with forest brigand Veerappan and the kidnapping of Dr Rajkumar. Director of the film and Srinivas’s business partner, AMR Ramesh, said that it was hard to accept the fact that Srinivas was no more. Refuting reports that the stay order against the film may be one of the reasons for Srinivas’s suicide, Ramesh said, “Srinivas was the least bit bothered about the stay. Two months ago, he had asked me about the case and I told him there was nothing to worry about and he left it at that. He was a strong person and nothing could easily faze him. Money too wasn’t an issue. The film has already cost us over 8 crore. But Srinivas never complained; when I discussed the budget and informed him we were overshooting it, he asked me to concentrate on the movie.”
Srinivas, who shot himself with his licensed revolver, was alleged to have been found with 50,000 in cash in his pocket when his friends found his body, allaying fears that money issues may have troubled him.
Ramesh added, “On Friday, Srinivas had told me that he had purchased a flat in Basaveshwaranagar for 1.25 crore. He had also paid an advance of 90 lakh and it was due for registration on Monday. He had planned to pay the remaining amount during registration.
