STR and Karthi confirm and 16 releases remain unconfirmed?
While December 2018 had nearly 6 releases by yearend, it was clearly understood that they cannot afford to get miffed by the biggies like Petta and Viswasam releasing for Pongal 2019. Similarly, all the medium and small budget movies had to hold up their releases for the entire month of January. With both Petta and Viswasam having a clear-cut winning stroke in box office, Karthi-Rakul Preet Singh starrer ‘Dev’ that was supposed to hit screens on January 25 is postponed to February 14 for Valentine Day.
On the other hand, STR starrer Vandha Rajavathaan Varuven that was supposedly scheduled for Pongal is getting released on February 1, which marks the occasion of the actor’s birthday (February 3). Although, Udhayanidhi Stalin-Tamannaah starrer ‘Kanne Kalaimaane’ is also planned for February 1 release, there hasn’t been any official announcement about it. Apart from these movies, there is a long queue of movies lined up for release in February 2019 that includes Bala’s ‘Varma’, Mammootty starrer Peranbu, GV Prakash starrers Sarvam Thaalam Mayam and 100% Kadhal, Vemal-Oviya starrer ‘Kalavani 2’, Boomerang, Kazhugu 2 and lots more.
It is worth mentioning that March months are usually not considered as a favourite one for releases as it involves academic examinations for schools and colleges. So these will be the least of releases for this season following which the next league would open up only March end.
