Are Vijay Sethupathi’s ‘Trial and Error’ method choices going wrong?
Every actor goes through this phase and it goes very well with Vijay Sethupathi as well. Maybe, this could probably look like a wrong choice, but it isn’t a permanent scenario to anyone. Over here in this special column from Kolly Buzz, we have tried analyzing factual collections of the choices made by Vijay Sethupathi, which has turned out to be a disappointment.
In a short span of time, Vijay Sethupathi became the favourite of family audiences and youth groups. He not alone became an amuser through performances, but created an impact that a film with the brand ‘Vijay Sethupathi’ will definitely have uniqueness. Guess what? Do you think any producer would approve a film like ‘96’ narrated by a newcomer? This is 100% fact that if not for Vijay Sethupathi’s call sheet, it would have been an impossible project. Naturally, it yielded the best results for the traders too. Nevertheless, Vijay Sethupathi has attempted to make some exceptional attempts like ‘Orange Mittai’ and ‘Rekka’, where he tried to flex his muscle in different genres.
He started off this style, when he got labeled as ‘Safety Bet’ by producers. But, the actual problem occurred with ‘Seethakathi’, where there was a huge expectation and audience was totally disappointed over the fact that his onscreen appearance was only for 25 minutes. On the other hand, they were completely filled with more hopes on his antagonistic performance in Superstar Rajinikanth’s Petta. To their disappointment, ‘Jithu’ couldn’t steal the show and what were more regretful is his portions getting deleted including the song ‘Thappad Maara’.
It seems that there is a long scene to pre-climax, where Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vijay Sethupathi have a long conversation. Actually, this scene strengthens the father-son bonding between. But Karthik Subbaraj reportedly deleted the scene as it would give a hint that Rajinikanth is lying to Vijay Sethupathi about their blood relation. Well, there isn’t anything to blame upon Vijay Sethupathi for this as he had done a great job to his role.

Notwithstanding all, it turned out to be a hat-trick blunder for Vijay Sethupathi when his ‘Super Deluxe’ was release. The first day across single screens had audiences flocking up not for Thiyagarajan Kumararaja (although multiplex audiences follow him), but for Makkal Selvan. Know what? Their excitements vaporized as ‘Shilpa’ steps out of the car. Adding more to the flaws, on the other hand, was the actor dubbing for Iron Man in “Avengers End Game”. We are all aware about the feedbacks that everyone gave after watching the Tamil version.
While this could be regarded as a bad choice, what we see here is Vijay Sethupathi’s attempt to establish his domain into different regions. Now he is consistently signing up for other regional movies including Telugu and Malayalam. However, his stature will be back in form with commercial entertainer like ‘Sindhubaadh’ and a remarkable film ‘Maamanithan’, where he teams up with critically acclaimed filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy.
Similarly, everyone expected Petta to have strong role for him. He has already proved best with multi-starrer, but it wasn’t the same as many scenes involving him were deleted. Super Deluxe had major opening in theatres only for Vijay Sethupathi (sparring multiplex audience who are fans of Thiyagarajan Kumararaja)
However, the actor is now working on ‘Investment mode’ to bring in other regional actors like how Rajinikanth-Kamal Haasan did before years.
He is acting in Malayalam and Telugu movies. This is a ‘Bet’ phase for Vijay Sethupathi as his ‘Sindhubaadh’ and ‘Maamanithan’ will surely bring him back to form
