Balu Mahendra an ardent fan of Illayaraja , he has done around twenty film with the maestro in 32 years. Recently the Veteran director and cinematographer revealed a novel Tit-bit to a TV channel about Rahman’s first national award. During the national award for 1992 both Thevar magan and Roja were the strong competitors for the Best Music score.
Thevar Magan music was composed by Illayaraja , Roja by AR Rahman and Balumahendra was the chairman for 1992 national award committee. The poll resulted in a tie with seven votes for both Illayaraja and AR Rahman. For a long time associate of Illayaraja,Balumahendra revealed that it was a embarrassing moment for him to decide between the two . But finally concluded by saying that “I knew that Rahman’s music will go places and registered my two votes which makes Rahman’s Vote count as nine, I thoroughly impressed by a debutant musician’s music standard which is almost equal to India’s top music director(Illayaraja) . Both myself and my close pal Illayaraja was very much happy for Rahman on getting the award for Roja”.
Legends are always Legends, Both Illayaraja & Rahman doesn’t have Ego why do Fans fight by abusing the other? Lets enjoy the duo’s music and celebrate them.
